Program NPCDCS

National Programme for Prevention & Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardio-vascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS)

National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardio vascular Diseases & Stroke (NPCDCS) is now being implemented in 27 districts (Except Kolkata) through Dist. NCD Cell and NCD Clinic. Under this Programme Opportunistic Screening of Common NCDs (Diabetes, Hypertension, Cardiovascular Diseases and Common Cancer- Oral, Breast and Cervical) are being done from all the health facilities (PHC to Dist. Hospital) and followed by diagnosis and treatment.

Along with this for early detection of Diabetes, Hypertension, & three common cancers – Oral, Breast and Cervical Population Based Screening (PBS) under NPCDCS of all persons above 30 years are being done with the help of ASHA, ANM through SC (Suswasthya Kendra) and followed by diagnosis and treatment by the MOs of PHC to DH, in – 9 districts Rampurhat, Purba Bardhaman, Howrah, Purba Medinipur, Paschim Medinipur, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Birbhum, Paschim Bardhaman Districts. And PBS will be started in another 10 approved districts (Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur, S-24 PGS, N-24 PGS, Diamond Harbour, Jhargram, Nadia, Purulia, Cooch Beher and Basirhat) from January 2020.

IHCI (India Hypertension Control Initiative) project under NPCDCS will be started in 5 districts as pilot in Howrah, Birbhum, Purba & Paschim Medinipur and Purba Bardhaman in a goal to improve treatment compliance of hypertension up to a level of 50%, thus to reduce mortality due to cardiovascular diseases up to 30% within 2025.
