Preventive and promotive health services are priorities of the health service are priorities of the health sector. The goal is reducing crude Birth Rate (CBR), Infant Mortality Rate (IMR), Crude Mortality Rate (CMR), and Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in conformity with international targets. As neo-notal deaths account for nearly fifty percent of IMR, the state government is giving the highest priority to reducing the causes of neo-deaths like asphyxia, hypothermia and neonatal infections in collaboration with National Neo-Natalogy Forum and ensuring ante, peri and post  natal

checkups through innovative schemes with assistance from donor partners. The goal is also to eradicate or eliminate some diseases like leprosy, polio and control other endemic diseases to reasonable levels. The government is equally concerned to ensure quality services at the secondary and tertiary levels.
